Jr. Hardware Testing Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Jr. Hardware Testing Engineer to join our engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for testing, validating, troubleshooting, and documenting hardware products and electronic assemblies. The role involves working closely with hardware design, firmware, production, and quality teams to ensure products meet defined specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Perform functional, electrical, and performance testing of electronic hardware and PCB assemblies.
Understand hardware schematics, circuit diagrams, BOMs, and technical specifications.
Set up and operate laboratory test equipment such as Digital Multimeter (DMM), Oscilloscope, Function Generator, Power Supply, LCR Meter, and other relevant instruments.
Execute test cases, test procedures, and validation plans for hardware products.
Perform bring-up testing and basic debugging of new PCB assemblies.
Identify, isolate, and troubleshoot hardware failures at component, circuit, and system levels.
Conduct voltage, current, continuity, signal integrity, and basic power-consumption measurements.
Verify hardware functionality against design requirements and specifications.
Support EVT/DVT/PVT, prototype testing, and engineering sample validation where applicable.
Perform regression and re-testing after hardware or firmware changes.
Record test results, observations, failures, and corrective actions in test reports.
Assist in root-cause analysis of hardware issues and coordinate with senior engineers for resolution.
Support production and quality teams in resolving hardware-related issues.
Maintain test equipment, fixtures, cables, and laboratory setups.
Follow ESD, electrical safety, and laboratory testing procedures.
Prepare and maintain test documentation, checklists, test reports, and failure logs.
Participate in design reviews and provide feedback from a testing and manufacturability perspective.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's/Diploma degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
0–2 years of experience in hardware testing, electronics testing, validation, or a related role.
Basic understanding of analog and digital electronics.
Ability to read and understand schematics, PCB layouts, and datasheets.
Hands-on experience with basic electronic test instruments.
Knowledge of components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, MOSFETs, regulators, connectors, ICs, etc.
Basic understanding of communication interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, or RS-485 is desirable.
Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good analytical and documentation skills.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Skills

Experience with PCB bring-up and hardware debugging.
Familiarity with embedded systems and microcontrollers.
Basic knowledge of soldering, rework, and PCB assembly.
Familiarity with automated testing or test scripts using Python or similar tools.
Knowledge of ESD and electrical safety practices.
Exposure to hardware validation, reliability, environmental, or compliance testing.
Familiarity with tools such as KiCad, Altium, Eagle, or similar PCB design software is an advantage.

Must Have

Bachelor Degree or Higher
PCB and Component-Level Testing, trouble shooting knowledge

Familiarity with test procedures for SMPS, LED drivers, microcontroller boards, etc.,

📌 Primary Responsibilities:

Testing & Validation:
- Perform functional, electrical, and environmental testing of hardware products.
- Conduct manual and automated tests as per standard operating procedures.
Test Setup & Execution:
- Prepare test benches, instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, micro controller programming tools), and setups.
- Ensure accurate wiring, connections, and signal integrity during test runs.
Data Logging & Analysis:
- Record test data, readings, and performance parameters.
- Identify deviations from specifications and report findings.
Troubleshooting & Debugging:
- Assist in identifying issues in PCB assemblies, power supplies, or embedded systems.
- Work closely with design engineers to replicate, isolate, and debug faults.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare test reports, log sheets, and issue reports in prescribed formats.
- Maintain daily records of activities, test results, and component usage.
Compliance & Quality:
- Follow safety protocols and test procedures as per ISO/IEC/BIS/EN standards.
- Ensure all testing complies with internal quality and reliability standards.
Components Handling:
- Manage test components, fixtures, and return of items to stock after testing.
- Maintain calibration records of test instruments.
Team Collaboration:
- Support senior test engineers and production teams during pilot builds or DVT/PVT stages.
- Participate in daily meetings to update status and discuss observations.

✅ Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Diploma in Electronics Engineering.
Min. 1-2 years of experience in testing / trouble shooting (freshers with strong internship may also apply).
Proficient in circuit design testing, knowledge of component, and use of test instruments.
Strong hands-on experience in hardware debugging and electronic assembly testing.
Familiarity with regulatory certifications like ISO-ZED etc.
